PROFILE

SHORT BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Khondoker Md Zulfiker Rahman joined as a Lecturer in the department of Zoology, Jahangirnagar University in 2009 after obtaining B.Sc. (Hons.) and M.Sc. degrees from the same department and was promoted to  Professor in 2022. He was awarded NFP/NUFFIC Scholarship-2012 for studying M.Sc. in Bio-interactions (Ecology) at the Wageningen University and Research (WUR) in the Netherlands. In 2014, he was selected as a Junior Scientist (IPA) at the Institute of Physical and Chemical Research (RIKEN) and worked in the RIKEN Cluster for Pioneering Research (CPR) at the RIKEN headquarters in Tokyo, Japan. Dr. Rahman earned his doctoral degree in Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology from RIKEN-Saitama University International School in 2018. During that period, he worked on the Molecular and Cellular Biology of Cancer, focusing on gene manipulation (CRISPR/Cas9, RNAi, dsRNA) and cell signaling (HSP70 family genes). Dr. Rahman has a number of articles published in international and national peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings. He worked as a team member of WUR consultancy services for the project "Making the Wageningen UR campus more beautiful: a modular plan for increasing natural diversity" funded by ‘Mooi Wageningen', the Netherlands. His current research activities include aquatic and terrestrial Ecology, exploring the role of macroinvertebrates in ecosystem functioning, and biodiversity conservation with the aid of traditional and molecular approaches.

RESEARCH INTEREST

Aquatic and Terrestrial Ecology, Aquatic Macroinvertebrates and Ecosystem Functioning, Bioinformatics, Genome Editing (CRISPR/Cas9, RNAi and dsRNA), Entomology, and Conservation Biology.
